Are you a vacationer, a traveler, or a pilgrim?
I recently attended a lecture at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. At that event, Rick Steves, who is a prominent travel writer and travel company operator, was speaking about the difference between the three.
A vacationer is looking for a place to chill out. Drinks are pouring from the bar, the sun is shining overhead, and you can escape from real life for a while. A traveler may see some historic sites while they are there, and they understand a bit about the country they are visiting. A pilgrim is interested in the sites, but they also want to get to know the people who live there; their beliefs, lives, neighborhoods, etc. They want to understand the struggles that exist in this little niche of the planet.
That’s kind of who we are at the Financialoscopy® office - Pilgrims. We want to explore the relationships that define who you are. So, at our very first meeting, we like to ask these simple questions:
Why you? What is going on in your life that you need help getting from point A to point B? You want to understand how to get there and what you need to do. You want to know what changes can be made to lead you to a more fulfilling life. Why us? What do we bring to the table? There are financial firms on every main thoroughfare within our area. There are probably as many financial advisors as there are coffee shops. So, what drew you to us? Why here? Why here, at this moment in time? What has occurred in your life that finally, possibly after years of putting it off, why here? Why now? What instigated the thought that today is the day that you want to take control of your life? You want to know how to navigate the world, life, retirement, and families. There is so much that needs to be navigated, and it’s different for everyone.
We need to know if you are simply looking for a vacation - you want a quick answer, and then you will move on with life. Then, you are probably not a potential client. Are you looking to travel? You kind of know the landscape, and you maybe want to know some possibilities. You probably are not a potential client. Instead, are you a pilgrim? Are you willing to open up and share what is going on in your life? One of the rules that we bring up in the very first meeting is that everything that you share with us stays here, and likewise, everything that we share with you about our personal experiences.
Are you looking for something deeper? Are you ready for a pilgrimage? Are you ready to discover the possibilities and then follow through and accomplish getting to point B?
Start the pilgrimage now by scheduling your Financialoscopy®.
