Several weeks ago, I did some late-night grocery shopping. We had been gone for a long weekend, and I needed to fill our empty fridge and cupboards. While I was there, I was feeling a bit snarky. This was my personal Facebook post from the shopping trip:
I was just having some fun late at night, but the comments on the post got me thinking. Here is what some of my friends said:
You can’t live your life totally in a “Fruit Loops World” where everything is fun and sugary, where you don’t care if you get a sugar high and then crash and burn. You also can’t live your life in the mundane. Monday through Friday are my oatmeal days because I’m trying to live a healthy life and live as long as possible, but on the weekends, it’s usually time for sausage, eggs, toast, and jam.
The same thing goes financially. You have to have some Fruit Loops along the way. You've got to be able to do some fun things along the way. I totally get it, but I can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to start losing teeth if you eat Fruit Loops every day. You also can’t be a total Debbie Downer or a Dave Ramsey, where everything is only rice and beans and no fun. That is why people break their diet habits. You have to have something a little bit sinful or dessert-y every once in a while. This is why we try to bring a more balanced approach to the table.
There is no right way to do everything. It’s a combination of good decisions and some fun. We try to look at people like real people. You are not a machine. You will not have the discipline to do all the things that you need to do at all times. Our office helps with “self-corrections”. We help make corrections along the way because there are going to be times that you “fall off the wagon” and spend money that maybe you shouldn’t be spending right now.
We realize that we are all just human. In a perfect AI world, everyone would be lockstep and doing exactly what they should be doing. But since we don’t live in an AI world, we live in the real world, let us apply to be your humans. As humans, we will walk alongside you to make your life as successful as it possibly can be with the resources that you have.
